Zimmerman To Get His Gun Back?

Or will he get a new gun?

As reported by the Daily Mail, Florida law requires that the evidence used in the trail of George Zimmerman should be returned to its owners.  This would include the gun which Zimmerman used to shoot Trayvon Martin in self-defense.  However, Department of Justice has asked the Sanford, Florida police department to hold on to the evidence, which could mean that their Civil Rights Division is conducting a witch hunt an investigation of Zimmerman's actions in Martin's death.

However, according to the Daily Caller, a gun shop in Volusia County, Florida has offered Zimmerman a free gun, either of the type used in the shooting and still held as evidence, or of "another weapon suitable for concealed carry".  Upon his acquittal, his concealed carry permit was restored.

Gun Makers Threaten To Leave

Gun manufacturers in Maryland and Colorado, in response to efforts in each state to pass strict gun control measures, have announced plans to relocate if those bills become law.  Both Virginia and West Virginia would welcome Beretta's possible relocation from their facility in Accokeek, MD.  Based in Italy, Beretta already has a place in Fredericksburg, VA.  Meanwhile in Erie, CO, locally-based Magpul has already told the state government that if the bill is passed, they will leave.  The company's founder and president, Richard Fitzpatrick, has stated, "It's not really a threat.  It's a promise."

Barry's Got A Gun

Last August, President Obama went skeet-shooting at Camp David, or so we're told.  Recently, the photo below was released, to back up a previous claim that he frequently shoots clay pigeons, and to respond to Representative Marsha Blackburn's (R-TN) challenge to a skeet shoot.  (As Instapundit points out, at least one woman has better shooting form than Barry.)  Along with the pic came a warning not to manipulate it - which didn't get very far.  The American Thinker claims that the photo is a fake in the first place.  I thought that the smoke coming out of the side of the gun's barrel was a bit peculiar, but apparently, some guns have a side exhaust port on the barrel.  Either that, or across the road there was a second shooter hiding in the woody knoll.  Let the conspiracy theories begin!

In response to recent proposals for of gun-control legislation, and as Vice President Biden hinted, possible "executive orders" to enact gun-control, a coalition of firearms groups has announced the first national Gun Appreciation Day.  To take part, go to your local gun store, gun range or gun show on January 19th, with your flags, Constitution and pro-gun-rights sign, and take a picture.
